About The Authors Ruth Danner and Lynn Dix

Rescued, Redeemed, Restored

Forever Friends Celebrating God's Grace Every Day

Ruth and Lynn met in sixth grade in Searcy, Arkansas. They quickly discovered much in common: same homeroom teacher, same piano teacher, same church and Sunday school, same band (but not the same instrument!), same church camp, same friends.

After graduation, though, their paths diverged. Different colleges, different cities and states, different careers. But a high school class reunion brought them back together, and their relationship thrives today. Ruth and Lynn both feel blessed to have each other in their lives.

That renewed friendship eventually became a creative partnership. Their shared faith, lifelong love of animals, and experiences with rescue gave them plenty to talk about—and ultimately plenty to write about. In Longing for Love, those interests come together through stories that celebrate rescued animals, loving relationships, and the ways ordinary experiences can point toward God’s grace.

Author Bios

Ruth McHaney Danner holds a master’s degree in Adult Religious Education. As a farm kid, she has a long history with ducks, horses, and cows, as well as rescued dogs and cats. In adulthood, she’s written for numerous magazines and newspapers and has authored two nonfiction books (What I Learned from God While Quilting [Barbour, 2000] and Making a World of Difference One Quilt at a Time [New World Library, 2015]).

Ruth began writing stories at age 10 and has continued sharing her life and faith through writing and speaking. Growing up on a farm, she remembers a parade of stray animals rescued by her family, experiences that helped shape her lifelong love of animals and the themes she explores today.

Dr. Lynn Dix, a dietitian, holds a doctorate in Human Resource Education. She promotes a lifestyle centered on God, good friends, and the love of an animal. Throughout her adult life, she and her husband have rescued, fostered, and sheltered many dogs and cats from a variety of unhappy situations.

For Lynn, rescue also means recognizing value in what others might overlook. She grew up learning to make good use of what was available, a perspective reflected in her longtime mantra, “Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.” That same appreciation for second chances carries into her love of rescued animals.

Lynn’s professional life has also centered on helping others, with a career devoted to nutrition in healthcare and college classrooms. While she enjoys sharing what she has learned about good nutrition, she feels equally passionate about rescue and the many ways caring for what has been overlooked can bring new purpose and value.
