Scents and Scent’s Abilities

It’s early and rather cool to be a southern May morning. The sun peeks from behind some gorgeous blue-gray clouds to create a perfect setting for our morning walk. As we stroll along a sidewalk in our community, my puppy girl has her nose to the ground. I watch as she sniffs scents left by wandering night visitors. Obviously more than a few smells have grabbed her attention. And I can only wonder their source.
Just now, a symphony of smells alerts my nose, too. The air, saturated with a hint of frying bacon and biscuits fresh from the oven, catches my olfactory attention first. Another delight quickly follows as the aroma of magnolia blossoms weaves in and out of the fragrance field.
Immediately, my thoughts drift back in time to memories of springtime family outings. Times of breakfast cooking over a campfire while planning the day’s activities. Times of family and friends together enjoying the rewards of a seasonal outing. Times of love and laughter and youth. Times gone by.
All these experiences, memories, and feelings come to us courtesy of our Heavenly Father. Such gifts as these only He can provide. Such gifts as these He thrills to bestow and I’m forever grateful. How often do we recognize something as simple as a scent to be a gift from God? It’s something to think about.
Oh, look at the flower bed just ahead. And in full bloom. Shall we take time to stop and smell the roses? Silly question! The following scripture speaks perfectly to this morning’s experience!
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place” 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)
